Youth Activities Council
The Youth Activities Council, also known as the YAC, is a group of high school students who represent the voices of youth in San Mateo. YAC addresses the interests and concerns of teens, which include; safety, recreation, special interests, sports, community involvement, socialization and environmental concerns. The YAC is a great way for teens to have their voices heard by government officials and allows them a chance to network with professionals and prominent figures in the San Mateo community.

Police Department Cadet Program
The San Mateo Police Cadet Program provides an opportunity for high school and college aged men and women to experience first-hand how a municipal police department functions in the community.

Police Activities League Youth Directors Council
An opportunity to be an active advocate for Youth involved with the Police Activities League and in the community. You get to help design new programs, attend leadership workshops, teach other youth, gain community service hours for school, and help with outreach efforts.

Fire Department Explorer Post 904
The San Mateo Fire Department Explorer Post 904 is a program for youth between the ages of 14 and 19 years old who are interested in exploring a career in the fire service.  Explorers are allowed to ride along with firefighters and assist on emergency scenes.

Fire Department Cadet Program 
The Cadet program allows students interested in becoming firefighters to volunteer with the department, while earning college credits for their ride-along experience.
